This course introduces participants to the first generation of Eurocodes, focusing specifically on the design of common structural elements according to Eurocode 2.

Attendees are introduced to the properties of concrete and learn about designing for durability and fire resistance. The course considers Eurocode 2 in relation to flexure, shear, axial load, and deflection. Attendees also learn how to use Eurocode 2 to design concrete beams, slabs, and columns.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course, attendees should be able to:

  • Describe Eurocode 2

  • Design concrete for beams, slabs and columns

  • Determine cover for a typical element

  • Design elements for bending, deflection, shear and axial loads

Intended for

  • Graduate engineer

  • Mid-career engineer
