This article describes the concept, detailed design and delivery of the Curragh Racecourse redevelopment, in Co. Kildare, Republic of Ireland.

Synopsis
This paper presents the story behind the concept, detailed design and delivery of the Curragh Racecourse redevelopment, in Co. Kildare, Republic of Ireland.

The structural engineering challenges revolved around the dramatic long-span cantilevered roof and its interface with the exposed precast concrete structure below, and the high attention to detail required to achieve the necessary visual and architectural quality for this world-renowned racing venue.

Designed with Grimshaw architects, the new facility was opened in 2019, a little under four years after the design competition was awarded.
