The paper describes the structural design and related construction matters of the first four phases of the Broadgate commercial office development situated adjacent to Liverpool Street Station in London. Aspects of the design discussed include the bored pile foundations, reinforced concrete basement, consideration of heave, composite construction frame, atrium steelwork, the central square, and details of the icerink construction. The interface with British Rail and below ground structures of London Underground is also considered.
