Development, trends and improvements of pedestrian bridges and covered link ways in Singapore

The Land Transport Authority of Singapore (LTA) currently manages about 450 overhead pedestrian bridges and around 15 km of covered link ways. These facilities are part of LTA’s effort to provide greater convenience to commuters and to encourage more people to use public transport. In the planning, design, construction and maintenance of these facilities, LTA has, over the years, steadily introduced improvements to better meet the increasing demands of the society. This paper outlines some of LTA’s achievements in these aspects and discusses some of the further improvements for future developments.
