Pathways to becoming RPEQ registered through the IStructE assessment processes

The Institution of Structural Engineers is an approved assessment entity for the Board of Professional Engineers of Queensland.

This means that existing Chartered Members, potential Chartered Members and non-members can become RPEQ registered via the IStructE assessment processes.

You can review the full BPEQ Assessment Scheme document for details of the eligibility criteria and assessment process.

Contact the Membership Team if you have any queries or would like to discuss the assessment process.

You are already registered as a Chartered Structural Engineer

If you gained your Chartered Structural Engineer registration with the IStructE via the standard application route you have already demonstrated that you have met the competence requirements for registration as an RPEQ.
Your application process is as follows:

  1. Email [email protected] to request the letter of eligibility

  2. The Membership Team will check your records and then send you a letter of eligibility

  3. You will then need to download and complete Form 2 on the BPEQ website and send the form, plus the required evidentiary documents and application fee, directly to the BPEQ. https://bpeq.qld.gov.au/registration/become-a-rpeq/

  4. The BPEQ will notify you when your application has been assessed.

You want to gain RPEQ registration but you are not a Chartered Structural Engineer

You can be assessed for RPEQ registration by the IStructE with no obligation to obtain Chartered Membership of the Institution.
Your application process is as follows:

  1. Email [email protected] to request the application form

  2. Submit the application form along with the evidentiary documents and application fees to start the assessment

  3. You will need to pass the Institution’s Professional Review Interview and Chartered Membership exam. Full details of these assessment steps and the timeframe for assessment will be sent to you when you submit your application

  4. When you have successfully completed the IStructE assessment you will be provided with a letter of eligibility

  1. You will then need to download and complete Form 2 on the BPEQ website and send the form, plus the required evidentiary documents and application fee, directly to the BPEQ. https://bpeq.qld.gov.au/registration/become-a-rpeq/

  2. The BPEQ will notify you when your application has been assessed – usually around two weeks.

At the end of the IStructE assessment process you will have the option to register as a Chartered Structural Engineer (MIStructE) and a Chartered Engineer with the Engineering Council (CEng). We would love to welcome you as a member of the Institution, but this is not a requirement.
