This project aims to investigate the mechanical behaviour of lattice structures with periodic cellular forms for energy absorption applications.

Updated 12 March 2020

Adam Bekele of Imperial College London provides a definition of metamaterials, describes types of microstructures, then the types of hexagonal configurations - conventional and auxetic structures.

The aim of the research is to understand their elastic deformation, analyse their load carrying capacity, and find an application for the knowledge gained.

The presentation was the 1st place winning presentation from the 21st Young Researchers Conference.
