The Scottish Regional Group have had good attendance at their events in January and February 2020 despite the inclement weather!

An evening presentation on Tall Timber Buildings by Dr Angus Law was the first event of the year, held on 21 January 2020.

Over 130 members and guests heard about the hazards presented by timber and how these impact on the assumptions inherent within guidance documents. Methods for mitigating such hazards were discussed in the context of structural stability and fire spread.

The region's first seminar was held on 20 February 2020 and saw over 100 delegates brave the weather to attend the seminar in Stirling.

Dr John Owen delivered a technical seminar on Wind Loading to BS EN 1991-1-4. which seems to have been much appreciated by all who attended.

Details are being finalised about the Scottish Regional Group's future events which will include:

Evening presentations

  • Antarctic engineering – Rothera Wharf
  • Dangerous buildings
  • Forensic engineering
  • Princes St/Rose St development.

Seminars

  • Pile design to EC7.
