It has come to the attention of the PCC that the organisation “Confederation of Engineers of India (“CEIndia”), founded by a Dr Amin Abdul Aziz Shaikh, included in its webpage (www.ceindia.org/rules-and-regulations/) the name Institution of Structural Engineers, and the protected titles Chartered Structural Engineer, Chartered Engineer and Chartered Environmentalist.
It is the Institution’s view that its name is being mis-used as a subentity of CEIndia. This is clearly improper, and the Institutiton therefore seeks to inform the public that it has no involvement, formal or otherwise, with CEIndia.
Furthermore, the designatory title “Chartered Structural Engineer” is a restricted title and may only be awarded by our Institution to suitably qualified individuals. It is not permitted for organisations, other than this Institution, to award this title, whether by competency assessment or by the simple payment of a fee.
The titles of Chartered Engineer and Chartered Environmentalist are also restricted titles governed by the Royal Charter of the UK’s Engineering Council and the UK’s Society for the Environment, respectively.
This matter was brought to the attention of CE India. The PCC, having not received a response from CE India, publishes this report.
