How digital fabrication is transforming the way we construct the built environment.

Exciting technology is transforming the practice of structural engineering by allowing us to imagine and design structures that can be made with digitally controlled machines.

Tim Lucas draws on examples of his own work and that of other practitioners to:

  • Look at the tools and techniques of digital fabrication
  • Question if the application of this technology on construction materials, from steel to stone, can reinterpret the idea of craftsmanship
  • Explore how digital fabrication might change building procurement in the future

Speaker

Tim is a partner in Price & Myers and founder of their geometrics group. He has designed a wide variety of innovative structures for buildings, bridges and artworks. His work employs digital design and manufacturing technology to examine structural performance and design structures that make the most of the opportunities provided by digital fabrication.
