Who should enter?
The award is open to individuals and departmental groups anywhere in the world who can demonstrate high standards of teaching in structural engineering and the development of innovative philosophies and techniques to improve student learning at a tertiary level.
Stage 1
Entrants should submit a 500-word brief outlining their initiative or innovation in Structural Engineering teaching. The brief should outline how they have developed innovative teaching philosophies and techniques to improve student learning at a tertiary level.
The proposal must cover a bachelor’s or taught master’s course and should describe one or more of the following:

Developments in learning/teaching philosophies and their impact on learning outcomes

Learning tools and physical or electronic models for use in lectures, tutorials or laboratory classes

Methods of demonstrating/teaching specific concepts of structural behaviour

Self-learning activities for students

Methods of assessment

Course design
Stage 2
Abstracts shortlisted as finalists for the award will be invited to complete a full report on their submission. The full report should be a minimum of 3,000 words (including 250 per illustration).
Judges will consider:

Innovation in teaching to improve learning
-
Evidence of effectiveness in improving the learning outcomes of students
-
Integration of the specific improvement into an overall scheme of learning/teaching
