You have the right to appeal any decision regarding your professional review (interview and exam).

Grounds for an appeal include:

Extenuating circumstances occurring immediately before or during the application process, interview or exam. 

Departure from the Institution’s application, interview or exam procedures.

 

You cannot appeal:

The panel's assessment of your application.

A decision of the Membership Committee.

 

Appeals procedure

  1. Submit your appeal in writing, along with any evidence, to the Deputy Chief Executive within 30 days of receipt of your written interview or exam result (or the decision of the Membership Committee)
  2. The Deputy Chief Executive will review your appeal within 30 days of receipt and decide if a case exists to review the decision
     
  3. If a case is deemed not to exist, you will be informed by the Deputy Chief Executive within 30 days of receipt of your appeal
     
  4. If a case exists, the appeal will be referred to the relevant panel for consideration at the next scheduled meeting. The panel will report its decision to the Membership Committee, who will make the final decision
     
  5. The Deputy Chief Executive will inform you of the outcome of your appeal within 30 days of the decision of the Membership Committee
     
  6. You have the right to a second appeal. In such cases, you should write to the Chief Executive (within 30 days of receipt of the letter outlining the result of your first appeal) detailing your grounds for another appeal
     
  7. You may not make a second appeal on different grounds from your original appeal, or put forward new evidence at this stage
     
  8. The Chief Executive will review your second appeal within 30 days of receipt and decide if a case exists to review the decision
     
  9. If a case is deemed not to exist, you will be informed by the Chief Executive within 30 days of receipt of your second appeal
     
  10. If a case does exist, the Chief Executive will appoint an Appeals Panel to review your appeal
     
  11. The Panel will consist of three Fellows who are unconnected with the interview, exam or application process and have no prior knowledge of you or your application
     
  12. The Panel will consider your second appeal within 90 days of its receipt by the Chief Executive, and report its decision to the Membership Committee
     
  13. The Chief Executive will notify you of the outcome within 30 days of the decision of the Membership Committee. The decision of the Membership Committee shall be final, but without prejudice to any separate right of appeal to the Engineering Council upon matters pertaining to inclusion on its register
