THE paper gives a brief outline of the history, development, design considerations and construction of the Hydrodynamic Laboratory designed and built by the Ministry of Works for the National Physical Laboratory. Broadly, the new laboratory incorporates a main waterway with its carriage rails, wavemakers, beaches, trimming docks and assembly
area and, also, separate manoeuvring and storage tanks, including the special buildings housing them. Associated with the tanks are the wax model shop, fitting shop, machine shop, woodworking shop, boiler house, offices and canteen.
