Mr. F.H. Needham (Member of Council) said he was particularly interested in the reference to the use of Delta bronze for reinforcement. This was most unusual, but the speaker had had occasion to do the same four years previously. The advisability of using it had been weighed up very carefully indeed. It had three principal snags: first, the very high cost-l0 times that of mild steel; second, low value of E, which affected calculations quite considerably; third, the fact that it could not be bent cold. On the latter point they had followed the advice given by the makers; it had been suggested that marginal cracks would appear on the outside if it were bent to too small a radius.
