Seven senior and expert members of the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) have secured the globally recognised
Society for the Environment’s prestigious Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv) registration.
CEnv is awarded to environmental professionals independent of discipline, denoting a high level of skill, expertise, and experience in sustainability.
The seven members who are now CEnv registered are:
- Muiris Moynihan, Sustainability Technical Leader at Laing O'Rourke
- Emily Halliwell, Senior Structural Engineer at The Concrete Centre
- Ian Poole, Senior Whole Life Carbon Officer at Westminster City Council and Associate Sustainability Consultant at Elliott Wood
- Niamh McCloskey, Sustainability Manager at Curtins and Chair of the Institution’s Young Members Panel
- Mike Sefton, Associate Innovation Engineer at Expedition Engineering Ltd.
- Penny Gowler, Director at Elliott Wood
- Will Arnold, Head of Climate Action at IStructE
IStructE became a licensed member of the Society in 2023, allowing it to run the successful pilot registration programme.
From May 2024 it will open registration to appropriately experienced members and fellows who meet the CEnv competences. These are the application of sustainability knowledge, leadership, effective communication, and personal commitment.
Yasmin Becker, CEO of IStructE comments: “We are delighted to work with SocEnv to award these first seven CEnv registrations to our members who have individually demonstrated their sustainability competences in their career as structural engineers. They are all advocates of change.
“Furthermore, CEnv contributes to our strategy to embed embodied carbon literacy requirements into the Institution’s Chartered Member process from 2023, and the revised approach to our Structural Awards that was implemented from 2022.”
