An introduction to the goals and how structural engineers can use them to tackle the climate crisis and create a better world.

Updated 31 March 2020

The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future.

Will Arnold presents an overview of the goals, their relationship with the climate crisis, and the role we must play as structural engineers if we are to tackle both over the next ten years.

He shares some examples of Arup projects that embrace the SDGs and give examples of ways in which engineers could increase the impact that they have through their work.
