Engineer Sarah Tattersall talks about the causes behind the collapse of a historical structure and the repair interventions that were carried out by her team.

This technical lecture explores how historic buildings are increasingly unable to accommodate the extreme weather events that our changing climate has imposed and the consequent importance of carrying out maintenance works using appropriate materials and techniques.

This lecture features a case study that showcases the detailed structural and archaeological investigations carried out after the 2019 collapse of the curtain wall at Lewes Castle, UK, and the interventions that were carried out to stabilise the adjacent section of the curtain wall that was still standing.
