Timber construction has witnessed an unprecedented transformation, evolving both in quantity and quality.

The emergence of taller, more resilient, and ambitious timber structures, some towering over 20 stories and reaching nearly 100 meters in height, has paved the way for timber's resurgence in the world of construction. Holding these timber giants together are Rothoblaas screws, a pioneering force that has driven this evolution and enabled it with innovative solutions previously unattainable.

On September 11, 2023, Rothoblaas presented its new catalog, "Screws for Timber and Terrace Joints," in 21 languages, ushering in a new era in timber construction. This catalog is not merely an assortment of larger screws; it is a testament to Rothoblaas' commitment to addressing the demands of imposing structures through new materials and engineering solutions, significantly enhancing the strength of timber constructions of the future.

Key innovations

TC FUSION - Revolutionizing Timber-to-Concrete Joints
The challenge of creating rigid floors capable of supporting large spans between load-bearing columns in massive structures has been ingeniously addressed with the TC FUSION system. Full-threaded screws for timber have been certified for concrete, allowing for the creation of robust timber-cement-timber joints directly on-site before casting, enabling previously unthinkable structural performance.

Hybrid Structures and Timber-Metal Connections
As construction sites become increasingly complex, blending concrete, metal, and diverse timber types, Rothoblaas has expanded its catalog to include screws for hybrid structures, catering to timber-to-concrete, timber-to-metal, and hardwood-softwood connections. The relationship between timber and metal has evolved as well, with metal now playing a pivotal role in load-bearing structures.

Corrosion Resistance
Rothoblaas has given significant attention to corrosion, offering a wide range of anti-corrosion materials, from organic-based coatings to inorganic-based coatings with an epoxy matrix layer, as well as martensitic stainless steel and highly corrosion-resistant HCR options. This flexibility allows builders to choose the most cost-effective corrosion protection based on specific site conditions.

Light Frame Structures
The rise of lighter timber frame and wood truss constructions is addressed in the catalog with the TBS Frame and TBS Softwood families. These solutions are adaptable to different regions, making timber construction accessible worldwide.

Enhanced Screw Performance
The introduction of the 3 THORNS tip, with raised slitting elements and an umbrella thread, improves the initial grip and installation of Rothoblaas screws, reducing torsional stress and minimizing damage to the timber.

Catalog Expansion
The new Rothoblaas catalog boasts 420 pages, featuring 18 new screw families and 18 range extensions, introducing approximately 450 new product codes. This expansion anticipates emerging trends in timber construction, breaking down traditional distinctions by use and highlighting the adaptability of these screws across various applications.

Beyond the Catalog:
In conjunction with the catalog, Rothoblaas has made strides in production, inaugurating a new Italian factory that enhances the development, production, and distribution of their screws and connectors. The design process occurs in South Tyrol, production takes place in Italy and across the globe, and the exports reach far and wide. Each Rothoblaas screw is equipped with a unique identification code, ensuring traceability throughout the supply chain, from raw materials to the construction site.

Accompanying the catalog is the "Smartbook Timber Screws," a valuable compendium of 30 years of experience in timber connections. This 70-page volume contains the most up-to-date information on timber corrosion, shrinkage, swelling, reaction to fire, applications, materials, and correct installation practices.

In Conclusion:
Rothoblaas screws are more than just connectors; they represent a gateway to a world of possibilities in timber construction. With the innovations presented in their latest catalog, Rothoblaas has set a new standard for the industry, ensuring that the timber structures of the future are not only taller and more ambitious but also stronger, more corrosion-resistant, and adaptable to a variety of construction needs. Rothoblaas stands at the forefront of the timber construction revolution, connecting the worlds of innovation and building to offer the best solutions available.
